Chungking, Mar. 24.
Chinese forces recaptured Lingshan at dawn on March 22 following a counter-offensive launched the previous night, according to Chinese field dispatches received here from the South Kwangsi front.
The Chinese reports claimed that rear communication lines of the Japanese forces were cut by strong Chinese units. Japanese forces which advanced eastward on March 13 from the highway south of Nanning were "now. facing annihilation," the dispatches claimed. Japanese casualties in the past few weeks of fighting were estimated at 5,000, Other Chinese dispatches from western Suiyuan reported that Chinese forces were assaulting Wuyuan, where hand-to-hand fighting was being waged in the suburbs. After entering the new city of Wuyuan in the night of March 20, another Chinese detachment fought its way into the old city of Wuyuan the following noon, engaging the Japanese in street fighting, the dispatches claimed.—Reuter, Last Nine Turkish Ships Recalled
