T= role Japan is to Blay in world affairs of the future depends largely on the success of its Axis partner, Germany, according to Dr. William C. Johnstone, Professor of Political Science of George Washington University.
Speaking at the recent "Pan American Conference" held here under the auspices of the Inter-American centre of George Washington University, Dr. Johnstone minimized the extent of Japan's trade "penetration" in Latin America. But he indicated that the future might be different.
"There is no real economic penetration of Japan in Latin America," he said, and added that the United States "need have no worry about Japanese trade competition, but we must not forget that Japanese and German policies are, for the present, closely bound up together, The success of Japan's 'New Order in Asia' is large-dependent now on the -success or failure of Germany's 'New Order in Europe,' It is this political connection of Germany and Japan that needs watching. It is this connection which is of most significance in Latin America and of utmost importance to the United States."
