Sim—I am. wondering whether it is indifference. indolence or just plain inertia which has Shanghai's public in its grips. Or else. have 1 been mistaken in my belief that times are very bard, that food. clothes. shoes, doctors. medicines. hospitals. schooling. transportation. water. coal. gas. electricity and the many other things of daily need are getting to stratospheric heights where the poor Shanghailander can no longer breathe?
Is it then a matter of entire indifference fo the Shanghai parent whether he pays $26, $75. or $120 for schooling his children? Can all those who have children now at school afford {0 pay the fees which will be called for when the next term opens after the summer holidays? If nol. what will rose who cannot raise the money do? Take their children out of school and let them play in the utler? Or send them to the'$400.000 er annum Orchestra Concerts to enjoy themselves?
Quite possibly T am dense. Will someone be £0 00d as {0 enlighten Justus Secuxous.
