Arrests of Japanese Said Not in Retaliation for Detention of Britons

London, Aug. 5.

Despite a tendency of the Japanese press to see in the arrests of two prominent Japanese businessmen under the Defence Regulations an act of reprisal for the detention of British subjects in Japan, it is pointed out here that there is no connection between the two measures.

It may be that, with a desi to maintain friendly relations, Great 1 delayed taking action ing added proer of e for an improved atmosphere by closing the Burma road temporarily, it is stated.

This gesture, however, does not seem to have been appreciated at its real value in Japan, and, indeed, has been followed by an outburst animosity in which Great Britain has even been referred to as a hostile country, it is added.—Reuter.
