During the month of May a considerable increase of work was done in the Outpatient Department of the Lester Chinese Hospital with the number of visits rising to 18,176, or 2,028 cases more than in April and 1,272 over May of last year. This increase is also noted in the number of operations done in this department, the figure of 316 for May being the highest in three years, The work in the X-Ray Department continues to grow, the total of 1,122 this May being higher than the same periods in 1939 and 1940.
The increase in the number of prescriptions dispensed follows very closely the increase in outpatient attendances. The number of free beds shows slight increase over the average for the preceding four months.
The hospital also had the pleasure of welcoming the Medical Superintendent, Dr. J. L. H. Paterson, who returned last rWonth from long leave Bell in England.
