Bill Approved Price for Foreign Gold

Dollar Devaluation

Limited to $35 an Ounce Washington, May 14.

The House Coinage Committee yesterday by a nine to seven vote approved a bill continuing President Roosevelt's dollar devaluation powers for two years.

An amendment was added to the bill, however, limiting the price for foreign gold to US$35 an ounce.

Representative August H. Andresen, Republican of Minnesota, who intro-Cuced the amendment, said that under the present law the price can be raised to U$41 an ounce. Representative Andresen also said that domestic gold production waz so small compared to world production that any domestic price increase would have little effect on dollar value if the world price was pegged at US$35 ounce—United.
