Nazi Agents

One of the first German agents to arrive in the autumn of last year was Baron von Oppenheim, who-went to Syria last November as the head of an "archaeological expedition" of 40 members. Von Oppenheim has had many years experience of the Near East and, indeed, used at one time to be called "the German Lawrence of Arabia."

'A few months later, there' arrived at Beirut another German expert on Arab questions named Carl Raschmann, and last January one of Joachim von Ribbentrop's men named von Hentig also arrived there.

AN these men and many others have been concentrating since the beginning of this year on fuding Arab supporters for the German cause. There is evidence that a good deal of gold is at present in eireula-Yon in Syria, and it seems likely that since Germahy's own gold reserves are stall, the German agents have brought with them part of the stores of gold which the Nazis seized in various countries which they have occupied.—Reuter. fatile—Reuter.
