A reader should never have to take a report on trust. If a story rests on the reporting of others, it should say so, and link to it, in the language it was written in.
The record is the reader’s, not the paper’s.
That is why every report here names its sources as it goes — the statistics office, the agency, the newspaper — and links each one, at its first mention, to the original.
Show the source, link the original. It is a small habit, and the one this paper means to keep.
