Settles and Pontoons

Drawings of a proposed roofed-in pontoon to take the place of the present P.& 0, pontoon and for the exclusive accommodation of mail tenders, are submitted, After some discussion it is decided to appoint a special committee to go fully into the matter of pontoon accommodation and arrangements generally for the landing of passengers and cargo. The construction of the new pontoon will be deferred until this committee has reported, and until its report, with any Tecommendations therein contained, has been adopted by the Council and by the Customs Authorities. It is considered inexpedient to make any modification of the existing rules and license conditions for cargo-boats at present.

Road Extensions and Widenings, Honan Road.—For the scheduled strip of Cadastral lot 167, measuring Mow 0.09, the claim of Messrs. Ward, Probst & Ca, is accepted, being at the assessed value, Tls. 16,666 per mow, with 10 per cent added. It is noted that the firm stipula ates that the cost of constructing the new path in front of the lot be borne by the Council.

Sawgin Road.—The claim of Mr. T. J. Rowland for the portion of Cadastral lot 427 required for this road will be submitted to the Land Commission in sccordance with the ensuing correspondence:—

Dear Sim—Iam in receipt of your letter of the 28th ultimo, and in reply I beg to point out that the fall area of my land U. 8. Lot. 724 is mi. £0. 14, h6, and have only recently been purchased at the rate of Tls. 3,650 per mow, I may also mention that the' above measurement includes the foot path, 50 you can see for yourself what a hardship it will be for me to be called to give up m0. £2. 15, hO. or practically a quarter of the lot, required bythe Council free s suggested by you, but I sin prepared to give up the area on the payment tome at the same rate as I pi for the land, viz. Tls. 912.50, which I sider fair and reasonable.

As to the advantages resulting from having a road to the property, I may ay that my intention was to build a small godown on the lot and I had in view the easy transit of cargo by the creek, therefore the road would not be such & groat advantage as it would be for a residence.

Yours faithfully.

H. Goprnzy, Esq.
