The Chuling Mining Works Ca., which is working a lead mine in the Chouping district, Swatow, recently made its first shipment of lead. Smelting by native methods is carried on at the mine, the present capacity of the furnaces being three short tons per day. It is proposed to double this furnace capacity at an early date. A high-grade soft lead, running between 99.97 and 99.98 per cent. pure, is produced. It is shipped in slabs weighing 140 catties each. A ready market for this product is found la South China.
