Proposed American Church

Song Service Scheme

Started three years ago to meet the needs of the American community in Shanghai, the American Song Service now proposes to establish a regular church on union or interdenominational lines with a view to calling an ordained pastor from America to devote his full time to the organization.

As a result of several meetings the following proposals were set forth That a definite church organization be undertaken by the Song Service Committee.

2. That this church be incorporated under American law and that it be so organized as to conserve harmony among the existing churches, to make federation possible and to promote interdenominational religious unity.

3. That in view of the growth of the foreign population in the western sections of the International and French Settlements of Shanghai, we propose that the eventual location of this church shall be in this vicinity.

4. That the organization should take the form of a community church similar to those being developed in the United States of America, open and attractive to Christians of other nationalities as well as to Americans.

The budget for 1920-21 for the carrying on of the work without a pastor is $4,500; or with a temporary' pastor, $9,000: or with a permanent pastor from America, $16,000.
