Chinese Plane Not Forced Down

Damage in Night Raids on (Wednesday Examined The aeroplane believed to have been shot down by the Japanese in the three Chinese raids over Shanghai on Wednesday night, did not land anywhere near Shanghai, it was learned upon further inquiry yesterday. The plane, it is stated, recovered and managed to return to its base. When last seen over the Settlement it was about three hundred feet up and wobbling. The impression that it was on fire seems io have arisen from the fact that it had turned its landing lights on and the interior of the cabin was also illuminated, clearly showing the pilot and observer.

A check of the damage done by the raids within the Settlement was mostly negative. "The four casualties reported in yesterday's issue were the only ones so far as could be ascertained. In the first raid several bombs were dropped north of Yangtszepoo Police Station, but none of them fell in the Settlement, In the later raids, a shell fell in a lane off Chekiang Road but did not explode. There were no casualties. ancient with the face of an aesthete who stood still as a statue
