Understanding With Japanese E Refuted Tsinanfu, Oct. 22.
Gen. Han Fu-chu, Governor of Shantung, renewed his pledge of loyalty to the Central Government in a statement issued to the press today.
The main object of his statement, he says, is to refute the many rumours suggesting that the failure of the Japanese to bomb Tsinan, the capital of Shantung, is due to an understanding between the Japanese and himself.
"The Japanese enemy," General Han declares, "conjures up tricks to divide us and then to destroy us, and we have already administered to the invaders an unexpected surprise and shock, "The Japanese are at their wits' end and are deliberately spreading suspicious to carry out their iniquitous plans. However, to the intelligent such crude stratagems are only ridiculeus.
"As a military man, it is my duty to help to protect the country, and now as the preservation or destruction of the nation hangs in the balance, I pledge my loyalty to the Central Government and to the Generalissimo. I shall resist to the bitter end:
"The facts speak for themsel Gen, Han adds. "The Central Go ernment already has an all-inclusive plan of military campaigns which I cannot disclose. I trust that our people will adopt a broad view and not entertain erroneous ideas. To sum up, facts speak louder than words, and rumours carry within themselves their own destruction."—Reuter.
