Mr. Eden Unaware Of Any Interruption London, Oct. 21.
The importance of preserving the Chinese Customs administration was fully realized by the British Government, which had emphasized this in communications to the Chinese and Japanese Governments, declared Mr. Anthony Eden, the Foreign Secretary, in reply to a question in the House of Commons to-day.
As far as he was aware, he added, the (Chinese Customs continued to function.
It was too early, Mr. Eden said, to make a detailed statement regarding the position of British trade in China, but according to present indications such trade in China proper in September would show a heavy decline compared with the previous month.—Reuter.
