Chinese Planes Start Yangtszepoo Blazes

Ten Chinese houses in Boundary Road, near Cunningham Road, were destroyed or seriously damaged yesterday forenoon by a fire which is believed to have been started by a hot fragment of a Japanese aerial bomb.

The houses, ell of which were of the Chinese shop type, were unoccupied when the flames started, and no-one was injured The Shanghai Fire Brigade was summoned at 1142 o'clock, when firemen turned out from Central Station. They worked from Elgin Road and Cunningham Road, dangerously near to the North Station, while Japanese planes kept on bombing the vicinity. They were fortunate in not being wounded by bomb or shell fragments.
