Only Spaniards

Madrid, Nov. 14.

"No one can believe that Madrid is being defended by a foreign army," declared Senor Manuel Azana, President of Republican Spain in an address here yesterday, "Madrid has only her sons to defend her, but these sons are animated by the knowledge that they are fighting for their freedom.

"A year ago, we had no army," he added, "but now we have a well-equipped force whose ranks are filled by our people, and commanded by officers who have had a year's experience in warfare."

The President, who arrived here two nights ago, visited the Serra front yesterday, accompanied by Senor Indelecio Prieto, Minister for War.—Havas.
