The Municipal Finances do not seem to be in a very flourishing condition, and an increase on the annual call was found necessary, from Tls. 15 to Tls. 25 per lot. It is believed, however. ihat the Chinese authorities will assent to a levy. of wharfage dues oh tea and opium for the purpose of Bund maintenance, which will relieve the Municipality of that burden. Messrs. Tucker, and Hart were elected as a Council for the ensuing year From Canton:—The price of rice in Canton has been eased somewhat by recent arrivals and the imposition of likin on this staple of food has been dispensed with for a year. This gives great encouragement to importers, who are Buying up rice at all available marts.
