Bigger Battleships If Tokyo Report True

Washington, Jan. 16.

Great Britain and the United States are preparing to disregard the limitations on the size of battle ships placed by the London Naval Treaty if the reports that Japan is building larger battleships are confirmed, according to high authorities here to-day. A spokesman of the Administration expressed the belief that the Powers signatory to the Treaty might ask Japan formally for information in regard to her building programme before taking such action. If the reports are confirmed, the United States Navy, it is said, will unquestionably seek authority to build batileships of equal or larger size.—Reuter.
