U.S.S. Marblehead Dispatched to Protect Americans During the last few days, the Chinese police in Chefoo dre reported to have staged a series df riots, and to have engaged in looting. News of the disturbances was first received by the American consular authorities in Shanghai from the American Consul in Chefoo. The U.S.S. Marblehead left Tsingtao at 11 am. yesterday for Chefoo to protect the eighty or so Americans living in Chefoo, as there is no American warship in the port at the present time. The Marblehead is expected to arrive in Chefoo some time to-day. In the meantime, it is reported that ell is quiet in Chefoo for the present. It is understood that the Marblehead's visit to Chefoo will be purely temporary, and that she will leave as soon as conditions quieten down.
Meanwhile, British subjects and property in Chefoo are being protected by H.M.S. Lowestoft, which replaced H.M.S. Delight about three days ago. The replacement was a routine matter, and was not affected by the outbreak of rioting and looting among the Chefoo police. H.M.S. Lowestoft will remain in Chefoo indefinitely.
