In Search of Material

Lamaseries opened their doors to Dr. Bernard, who penetrated the Himalayas perpetual snows to enter the forbidden city of Lhassa, in search of material for his doctor's thesis, Here, on the start of a nation-wide lecture tour, he told of how he was the first to be accepted by the Buddhist abbots as an equal, then as a superior.

Twelve-thousand feet above sea level, Lhassa, said Dr. Bernard, is not unlike the Shangri-la of "Lost Horizons," of which Mr. James Hilton was the author. There, Dr. Bernard sought mastery of the Tantric Yoga, cultural, philosophic and literary history of India.
