Rest Collapse After Lunch

Play resumed at 2 pin. with Cpl. Jones 31 and "Quincey 6. After adding 20 to the score, Jones was induced to play forward te a ball slightly short of perfect length. and Leach held the catch off his own Stokes or Sinclair could reach their century. A partnership contributing 145 runs was eventually brought to an end when Stokes connecting in the middle of the bat, was magnificently taken by Shroff, when a four appeared certain. Stokes 64 consisted mainly of well timed pulls to leg and drives past cover and was well worth watching. Geere joined Sinclair to see the latter reach his century—and a chanceless one at that. Geere was out Lb.w. and Sinclair followed soon afterwards when he had added 22 to his score. His innings of 122 was a delightful exhibition of free hitting all round the wicket, and included a fine six onto the path in front of the Pavilion.

Dunkley then further enlivened the game by hitting a beautiful six, in a merry knock producing 11 runs. Leach and Duckitt carried the score to 269 before stumps were drawn at 525 p.m. Leach hit the third six of the afternoon in his contribution of 19, undefeated. Cpl, Jones must be congratulated on his excellent keeping, allowing only 2 byes in Fall of Wickets:—1 for 14, 2 for 14. 3 for 37, 4 for 48, 5 for 20, 6 for 84, 7 for 100, 8 for 123, $ for 123, 10 for 194.
