Snow Hinders Telephone Service

For the past few days the Telephone Ca. which as far back as in ihe days of Mr. B. V. Ostroumoff switched - over to the automatic system, has been receiving many complaints from subscribers, chiefly those living in the. Pristan distri about the faulty telephone service. The manager of the apparatus department, Mr. Yashiro, gave a statement to the press on the matter, pointing out that the main reason lay in the melting snow which. dampened the worn-away insulation of old telephone wires and caused short circuits.

A further cause is that the compony recently started laying new wires to the Pristan district, with the aim that when a branch station will be opened in New Town this line could be immediately included into the net. And in the third reason the fault lay with the residents themselves, In clearing the snow off the roofs, as it is always done at the end of winter, blocks of ice often fall on es and cause damage.

Rozin, Prior of the Lutheran-Evangelist Parish, left rerently for Dairen, This trip has been necessitated by the transfer of the Dairen-parish from under the charge of the Tientsin pastor to that of Harbin. In addition the Tientsin pastor, the Rev. Puffert, shortly will leave for Germany and the Rev. Rozin will visit Dairen from time to time in order to satisfy the spi! ual needs of the German colony, On the evening of March 17, the Rev, Rozin conducted a special religious service to the memory of German soldiers who fell during the Great War.
