London, Mar. 29.
A further consultation. between British, American and French moval experts will be held to-day, says the Naval Correspondent of the "Daily "Telegraph." The meeting is likely to be decisive, he adds, and the Powers will agree to invoke the Escalator Clause of the London Naval Treaty.
It is now certain, the correspondent declares, that the Treaty maximum of 35000 tons will be raised to more than 40,000 tons, and the two British ships to be built in the programme for 1938 will probably surpass H.M.S. Hood, which is 41,00 tons, The correspondent adds that reports from Washington indicate that new American battleships will be 43,000 to 45,000 tons, mounting ten or more 16-inch guns and costing £16,- 000,000 each, It does not follow, however, he concludes, that British ships will have the same tonnage and armament.—Reuter, Sultan of Muscat
