Fortunately, funds from both local and foreign sources have continued to reach the Red Cross treasury in recent weeks. Particularly encougaging is the promise of a further donation of $250,000 from the Central Government of China, secured by Father R. P. Jacquinot during his recent visit to Hankow. In addition to this amount, the Chinese Government is prepared to assist the S.LR.C. relief programme by subsequent grants of $100,000 a month. A second large, contribution recently received by the Shanghai International Red Cross for relief work in other places than Shanghai is a remittance of $10,000 from Honolulu.
In view of these developments and in order to evaluate the relief needs and financial requirements of various war-affected. regions in the country, the S.LR.C. Executive Committee, at its meeting on March 22, decided to form a liaison or consultative committee to carefully go into the question of allocating funds to areas outside of Shanghai. The new committee will naturally keep in constant touch with other fund-allocating bodies in the city.
It must be noted, however. that specially designated gifts have been made to several surrounding areas even before the S.LR.C. decided to enlarge the scope of its work. The Director's Office is prepared to continue to handle such designated gifts
