According to local statistics, exports of silver during the week fended August 23 were Tls. 17,110,- '000, chiefly to London, and '$25,- 200000, chiefly to New' York. At the close of business on August 23, the stock of silver in Shanghai was Tls. 73,276,000 and $363,520,- resent, a total sum of $10,000,000 comprising silver dollars, bar silver and sycee silver has been exported from Shanghai to foreign countries, the exports during the past several weeks being particularly heavy.
