The incompetence of the North and Central China puppet leaders compelled the Japanese to make overtures to Marshal Wu, a personality who is widely admired among Chinese circles. The rumours that the Japanese are supporting Marshal Wu, these Chinese circles declared, are a grave insult to the latter's unimpeachable character, out, Marshal Wu has always refused to live in foreign concessions or seek foreign protection.
His high character and integrity, they add, have won the respect of his countrymen, who are convinced that Marshal Wu will not accept any Post in the projected new government.—Reuter,
