Milan, Aug. 1.
The secret of Marquis Marcont's new Javention, which has hitherto been guarded "with stubborn tenac~ ity, wae at last ' revealed to-day when the inventor invited a number of distinguished guests, including the president of the Italian Navigation Service and the presidents of British and Italian shipping companies, as well og a number of higher British and Mahan naval officers and engineers to make a cruise in his pri vote yacht Electra near Sestri Levante on the Riviers The new invention is said to have cost Marconi three years of unceas~ ing research with short-waves with view to enabling steamers and aeroplanes to -be steered with fect accuracy and safety even during the dorisest fog. Moreover, Marconi declared that, with the same apparatus, it would' be possible to termine the exact distance of a ship from a port or any other object not further away than two miles.. The last experiment turned out a' corn plote success.
In Sestri Levante, 99 metres above the sea-level, a transmitter was erect ed while the Electra carried a receiving set. The yacht left Santa Marginuerita "with the bridge completely enveloped in canvas so. that the sveersman could) The yacht then steered the presertb. ed course ten miles long with per fet accuracy, and. passed better two test punys, placed at the -entrance of the harbour. Marconi believes that his invention will save thousands of lives "ard millions of pounds property each year and considerably reduce tha percentage of accidents at sea.—Trans-Ocean Kuo Min.
