U.S. Cannot "Police World"; Democracies Not to Be Enforced Washington, Feb. 3.
"Mr. Hamilton Fish, - ranking Republican member of the House Foreign Relations Committee, tonight accused President Roosevelt of enter-Ing into a "quasi-military alliance with France."
Attacking the President's support of ihe sale of American planes to France, Mr. Fish said in a speech broadcast throughout the nation that Mr. Roosevelt apparently wanted the United States to be "the policeman for the entire world."
He said the President apparently wanted Americans to expend their "blood and treasure" despite the nation's traditional policy of nonintervention in European affairs.
Mr. Fish challenged the President. to specify what nation or nations even "remotely intend to invade the Western Hemisphere. He denounced the proposed fortification of Guam Island in the Pacific as a move "aimed at Japan's heart.
If Japan projected a similar base within 1,300 miles of California or the Panama Canal, he said, the United States would "regard the move as provocative and virtually a cause for war."—United Press.
