"As a result of annihilating battles' the communique said, "the largest and most decisive of which were on the Bend of the Vistula River, millions of men in the Polish Army have been defeated, captured, or blown to pieces. Not a single Polish active or reserve division or independent brigade has escaped. Only individual bands were able to fee to the marsh areas of east Poland, where they were defeated by the Soviet troops. Of the entire Polish Army at present only a small umber are hopelessly fighting Warsaw, Modlin, and Hela, and that possible only because of the dell-berate delay of the German Army in its consideration of the Polish civil population."
