Negotiating Mission

The procedure the British Government had in mind, if the Council generally approved the policy he outlined, Mr. Eden declared, was to appoint another special body to visit Palestine and negotiate with Arabs and Jews, and to submit to the Bri tish Government proposals for a detailed scheme of partition.

This body would advise, in due course, in regard to the provisional boundaries of the proposed Arab and Jewish states and the new British mandated area, and also undertake financial and other enquiries for which the Royal Commission had recommended the appointment of a financial commission.

Later, a final detailed boundary demarcation commission would have to be appointed.

As far as can be gathered, the idea is that it would be largely a departmental commission which would go to Palestine as quickly as possible. It is estimated that if all goes well the report might be ready about January.
