Both Shanghais Foreign and Navy Y.M.C.A.s tried their fortunes in the Annual International Y.M.C.A. Telegraphic Bowling Competition when each organization had two teams in action last night at the Foreign "Y" "alleys. This quartette of teams was split into two groups. The first-stringers participated in the "B" Class championship while the seconders took part in quest of "C" Class laurels.
The results which local contestants turned in last night were rather unimpressive. Apparently, they were too much excited about competing in a world tournament and having their Scores sent to New York, headquarters for final selection of win-mers. The civilian leam, however, made a better showing than the Navy "Y" side represented by the Fourth U.S, Marines. Corporal Cushman, who hung up the season's highest triple mark of 622 last Tuesday night, was at a complete loss as he felled only 498 pins. Duncan Ross, Thursday night's sensation -in tallying a single of 234 was a total disappointment, registering a low tally of 426.
Only H. Cochran, bowling on the second team of the Foreign "Y," was able to'exceed the 200 mark. His record was 214 pins which came in the second game and helped his side to roll up the highest team single of 835 pins. The next high team single was also made by the civilians when Gonsalves' team knocked down 815 pins in the opening game. Cochran's triple read 505.
Two other competitors were seen Teaching above the 500 mark. They were Corporal Graves, a Marine Seconder who countered 539, and H. Moseler of the Foreign ^Y" A's who netted 510.
