Warsaw, Mar. 5.
Colonel Joseph Beck, Polish Foreign Minister, accompanied by Mme. Beck, left for Rome at 7.30 am. today in mysterious circumstances.
It had been officially announced that Colonel Beck had left yesterday, but actually the Foreign Minister spent the night in the train which only left the station this morning and will arrive in Rome at 7.35 pin. to-morrow. It is understood that the main object of Colonel Beck's journey is to express Poland's opposition to any scheme reviving the four power pact.
He will endeavour to get the Italian Foreign Minister, Count Galeazzo Ciano, to reiterate the statement he made on July 13, 1937, when he said that "Italy, while desiring to renew Locarno as a western pact, in no way ignores the vital interests of other powers, chiefly Poland."
Well-informed circles here' expressed the opinion that Il Duce will possibly claim Poland's adhesion to the anti-Communist pact and her withdrawal from the League of Nations as a counterpart to Italian assurances against the four power pact, but Colonel Beck is expected to refuse these demands.
