Estate Surrounded with Troops

Two thousand National Guardsmen, besides 18 battalions of the regular Army from West Point guarded Poughkeepsie, N.Y. six miles from Hyde Park, and ihe approaches to the Roosevelt estate last night.

The King and Queen made the trip to Hyde Park in a closed car because of rain. After leaving New York City they travelled about 45, miles per hour along the Hudson Parkway.

This was the speed at which the parade in New York had been planned in order to speed up/the reception for the King and Queen. Queen Elizabeth, however, turned to Mayor LaGuardia and Governor Lehman and complained that "the people cannot see. The Mayor ordered the pilot car to be slowed down to 20 miles per hour for the remainder of the drive to the Fair Grounds.
