Shanghai, July 16, Captain H. G. Reed, Chief of the Settlement Fire Brigade, was the Feciplent yesterday, of the Concession's Silver Medal' in recognition of his services to the Concession during the 1937 hostilities. The presentation was made at the Poste Central where 4 private reception was held on the occasion of the French National holiday. M. Baudez, Consul-General for France. in Shanghai, pinned the Vermeille Medal of the' Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to the flag of the Service, whilst Captain Reed was then asked to decorate five Chinese members of the French Fire Brigade with Aifferent awards for bravery.
The presentations were made in the rear part of the compound which had been suitably decorated, whilst gramophone music was broadcast from the Alliance Francaise Radio Station. which also has its studio inthe compound, No speeches were made, as the get~ together was informal and, apart from the guests from the Settlement Fire Brigade, about ten in number, officials of the French Municipal Council, the French Police and other Services were well represented, Commander A. M. Rovere and Lieutenant de Becker, received the nests, whilst the entire stof of the Poste Central looked after the guests with regard to drinks and sandwiches.
Notwithstanding: the early hour at which the reception was _held—it lasted from 9.30 to 1030 am—the compound was well fied and the numerous friends of the Concession Fire Brigade were reluctantly compelled to say good-bye as another Feception was scheduled for 11am. at the French Ambassador's residence.
Amongst those present, were: M. Bauder, Consul-General for France, Brediam, Secretary of the French Municipal Council, Monsieur "Des Courtils, Administrative Secretary of the FMC, Mi Baillie, Director of the Technical Service of the Concession, Commandant Fabre, Chief of the Concession Police, 'M. Jobex, Valentin, Capt. Reed, Messrs, Fred, Poulet, Bonniveau, Donne, Pett, Brun, Perier, Filipetti, Grosbois, Lamiere, Guillemin, Chollot, German, Courdier; Ladroite, "Turnbull, Tarby, Manivel; Huxley, Chaillan and many others The following members of the Brigade were decorated:
Silver Medal of the Concession: Adjutant Vu-ow and Via Wel-pao, Bronze Medal of the Concession: Adjutant Tsu Fangeling, Zi Ya-tang, and Wang Tsing-tsing.
