Rapid Improvement

Last week's gala produced some fast times, particularly in the Men's One Length Free-style and Men's 30 yds. Handicap, H. Eardley ana W. V. K. Corneck are improving rapidly, the former's reaching style being most impressive. There are a number of budding short-distance aces in the making, the most promising of whom appear to be the Smith brothers, The lack of middle-distance men is dis-wessing, H, Farmer being the only member who is returning a time under the sixty second mark for the 100 yds. Of the younger swimmers Lumsdaine, Brewer and Hugh Farmer are improving at every appearance, ud are capable of holding their own against the seniors.

Of the galaxy of beauty that adorns these meets Miss Vera Dodd is perhaps the most outstanding, both in free-style and breast-stroke, at which she did so well last season. Miss Peggy Brewer has an easy style, and has been winning her heats consistently, while Miss Sadie Beattie and Miss Joan Picozzi are both close to the leader:

Advantage will be taken of the presence of so many swimmers to play at least one water-polo match. Last week a League fixture was played off, two Club sides being the contestants, This evening two pickup sides, including the visitors, will give an exhibition which should prove both instructive and interesting. Gavrilo, Logan and Oliveira will be separated for once, while Hans Park and P. Bell will be seen in their usual positions of centre-half. and left guard. The Club is subscribing its best players, and a closely fought match should eventuate.

In anticipation of a larger crowd {han ever seating accommodation has been extended to hold 120. Doors open at 845 pr, and the meet is expected to end by 1 pin.
