Miss Best is a film actress who has been going from strength to strength, and deserves far more attention than the producers have given her. She has a delicious kind of cool courage that makes the scenes in which she appears hers, and hers only. She never speaks a line insincerely. She never plays for position, ndr draws attention to herself, but is there, squarely, in the centre of the picture.
There remains Corinne Luchaire, star in this, her first picture. Mi Luchaire is tall and very fair, with larg face, yellow hair flatly drawn across her head, and a style that is faintly reminiscent of Bergner's. She is appaling in both the films, but more successfully handled, I think, Denham version. Her broken ive to our sentiment tal ears, and the loving care with hich her part has been developed, ye her ahead start over all the The skill with which the British director, Brian Desmond Hurst, has synthetized her part by cutting from close-ups of the Luchaire head to lyrical shots of cloud, corn, wheeling birds, would have made a star of a very much lesser performer. Miss Luchaire. has quality, youth, zest, and a gravity that becomes her. She is not a great actress yet, but if she allows herself to be taught I think she might easily become one some day.
