The Acting Municipal Advocate states in his report that 10498 cases were prosecuted in the Shanghai First Special Area District Court and the Kiangsu High Court, Second Branch, during September, as compared with 9,890 cases in August. Out of the total number of cases prosecuted, 9,151 were Administrative cases, and 1,345 were Criminal Cases, Out of the total number of Administrative Cases brought to trial, 6,948 persons failed to appear and their bail was confiscated, and 13 were withdrawn as compared with 6,982 cases in which bail was confiscated and 18 cases withdrawn in August 2,190 Administrative Cases were prosecuted to completion, out of which number 2,190 persons were convicted and none were acquitted. 72 Criminal Cases were withdrawn, and 1,273 were pro-secured to completion, out of which number 1,136 persons were convicted, ånd 137 acquitted. The total number of Administrative and Criminal cases prosecuted to completion was 3,463 as compared with 2,824 cases in August. 3,326 persons were convicted and 137 persons acquitted, as compared with 2,690 persons convicted and. 134 persons acquitted in August.
In addition, there were 123 private criminal prosecutions, as compared with 126 in August, per cent. of the persons charged in Criminal Cases, and' 100 per cent. of the persons charged in Administrative Cases were convicted, making the total percentage of convictions for the month 946 per cent, as compared with 934 per cent. for the month of August.
