Referring to the issue of a proclamation by the so-called "Irish Republican Government" and "the Irisn Republican Army," claiming that the Republic of Ireland is in existence, Sir Dawson Bates, Northern Ireland Minister of Home Affairs, declared that the recent outrages on the border of Northern Ireland were doubtless the first shots in the campaign.
The knowledge of a plan of prepared outrages, he added, resulted in the Government of Northern Ireland being compelled to intern leaders of the "Irish Republican Army." His Government, declared Sir Dawson Bates, would not be deterred from doing its duty and would not shrink from exercising its power.
If necessary, he concluded, the Government would seek additional powers for restraining the criminal activities of unlawful associations and the stamping out of outrages and murder as a means for achieving their political ends.—Reuter.
