Tokyo, July 12.
"The agenda of the Anglo-Japanese conference on Tientsin will be decided only after Sir Robert Craigie (the British Ambassador) meets Mr. Hachiro Arita (the Foreign Minister), declared the Foreign Office spokesman at his press conference this morning.
He added that the meeting between Mr. Arita and Sir Robert Craigie would probably take place next week, when it was expected Mr. Arita would demand that Britain, first of all, should express willingness to maintain strict neutrality in the China Incident, The spokesman denied that the Japanese Government was associated with the present anti-British campaign held throughout Japan.
Asked whether it was to be assumed that the Japanese were fomenting the anti-British campaign in Japanese-occupied areas in China, the spokesman retorted: "The question is insulting."
He declared he had no information on such "minor cases" as the recent incidents in Tsingtao, one of which involved the stoning of the British Consulate.
He had also no information to give regarding Colonel C. R. Spear, the British Military Attache in China. He did not know whether the British authorities in Peiping had been informed of the reported impending court-martial of Colonel Spear or whether British representatives had. been invited to be present.—Reuter.
