Britain Should Never

Follow Nazi Method

Primate of England Urges Maintenance of Decencies London, Oct. 1.

Preaching at Westminster Abbey today, the Archbishop of Canterbury voiced the hope that Britain "would not enter into competition with Germany's vile and cruel war methods. A cause as high and lofty as ours must not be defended by means unworthy of it. Even if we should suffer by it, there are limits below which we must not fall."

Recalling Nazi Germany's' past history, the Archbishop said: "Austria, Czechoslovakia and Poland have marked her road together with the persecutions of men and women whose only crime was to have blood in their veins and a fidelity to their conscience," he continued. "What would happen should this be allowed to go on? The law of the jungle would soon become the only recognized international law. Let public opinion be conscious of that."—Havas.
