Smj—The starting of the present war in Europe by Germany preceded by her invasions of Belgium, Holland and certain small countries in, that part of the world has reflected the follies of the statesmen and military Headers of that invading country to attain the goal of world supremacy through military conquest, What those statesmen and military' advocated as peace is now proved as "peace under the bayonet." Bar-verity and disregard of civilization so far revealed in her conduct of the way are to be condemned, but why not those countries upholding Justice and maintaining a policy of universal brotherhood take up arms against that violator of peace? It regrettable that Ttaly and. Ruésia, who should have championed the cause of the Allies as in the last have stood on the side of German; though without military aid. Tu the opinion of a neutral like me—the opi. union which most people may share with me—those two countries should at the present moment reconsider their national policy with an aim of living in peace or with one of Aghting side by side with the Allies, should they feel it 10 be a vice to act a3 an accomplice in the destruction of peace and civilization' Many Instances may be found Ju history, in which people equipped with superior farms or scoring initial successes in wars were defeated in the long run, Would it not be desirable to say that here will be no exception with Germany Shanghai, May 28.
