If you know nothing of Yogism you should read this book. If you associate it with a mystic sect in the East and think that it has nothing to do with the troubles and problems of the world today, you should read it too. For the Eastern religions have, as the author shows, a message for all of us.
Religions, as Sir R. Radhakrishnan wrote recently, divide into two main categories, "those which emphasize the object of the religious experience and those which insist upon the significance of the experience itself." Yogism places its emphasis on the latter. There is only one reason why we are here on earth, to find our spiritual self. Such a search does not concern itself with ritual or creed or external organization and is not therefore divisive and it cannot be attained by intellectual analysis. It is the same for all, for the True Self is the same in us all. Mr. Paul Brunton goes on to discuss the essentials of a sane religion. We must seek our own spiritual experience, being humble and eager for the Truth, setting aside our personal thoughts, our problems and our amditions, "Mankind needs someone to remind him of what he has lost, God needs a medium. "So when God chooses to make His Presence felt, He usually does so by using some individual as His channel" Christ himself was an instrument, "I can of mine own self do nothing" "My doctrine is not mine but His that sent me."
