Tokyo, Aug. 28.
Six hundred thousand bags of flour will be distributed in Tokyo during the next few months by the Tokyo prefectural authorities, the "Kokumin" reports. The prevailing shortage of bread, noodles and pastry ies will therefore be alleviated, it says.
The recent 20-40 per cent. cut in bread and pastry prices, ordered by the authorities, and the fact that the people have been encouraged to replace rice with bread in their daily diet, has made it impossible for bakeries to keep pace with the growing demand for flour products.
Of late, the "Kokumin" states, practically no cakes could be found in Ginza shops, and the same has been true for noodles and bread, which have been generally sold out early in the morning.—Havas.
