Intellectual Overwork

The times in which we are living are full of tragic events which very often affect our morale. If to this nervous tension caused by political happenings is added the moral fatigue due to personal or business worries, the brain gradually loses its normal equilibrium and its functional output is diminished. The morale of the patient is affected, he is fearful of the future. unsettled and easily e: hausted, self-conscious, and his capacity for work is reduced.

This state of mind is called cerebral Cepression.

The same phenomena may occur among persons who work too hard intellectually; in particular, among those who have a lot of figure work te do. In such cases, there is really a wearing-out of the nerve centres. on which too heavy a task has been imposed.

Actually, this part of our nervous system which is affected by an excess of emotional or intellectual overwork is the "Grand Sympathique", an orgarf whose function it is to maintain an equilibrium of our cerebral functions.

Hereunder are of some of the main symptoms which enable us to determine whether we are affected by a depression of the Grand Sympathique:

l. Headachés. sometimes violent. most frequently located above the eyes. at the top of the cranium or at the back of the head.

2. Dizziness, occurring mostly in the morning.

8. Slight tremors of the hands. making writing difficult 4. Insomnia. occurring in stages and accompanied sometimes by painful dreams. leaving a sensation of fatigue.

5. Pains at the level of the stomach. vith excess of gas.

6. Great fatigue. which the slightest physical effort aggravates with a feeling of pain in the muscles.

7. A marked tendency to melan-cholla; with the patient seeing everything at its darkest and exaggerating his worries.

All these troubles are signs of di sion of the "Grand Sympathiqu disappear easily following treatment by the "nasal touches" of Dr. Vidal.

These touches give new vigour to the "Grand Sympathique" which resumes its normal functions with the result that the pains disappear. the patient recovers his sleep, melancholia fades away, the discouraged patient finds new hope and recovers his normal capacity to work.

The treatment of intellectual overwork is at the present time one of the most successful treatments by Dr. Vidal's method of "nasal touches.
