Britain's first "test tube" calf has been born—in Essex—and is growing up a dine, healthy animal, The sire; a Friesian bull, has never left Holland; the dám, à Friesian cow, has never left England states the "News Chronicle."
The calf is the result of a successful experiment in artificial insemination carried out by the Anifiidl Nutrition Research Institute, Cambridge University, and Dr. Sibenga, a Dutch veterinary surgéoi, Dr. Sibenga collected the spin from: his bull Odin last February stored it in a test tube packed among ice in an ordinary thermos flask and sent it by aeroplane to England, Twenty-eight hours later Lord Rayleigh's British Friesian cow Terling Torch 67th was inseminated with the fluid. She has now produced a fine heifer calf.
Last May and June semen from H, J. and H. G. Martin's Friesian bull, Littleport Nico's Lindberg, was sent from Cambridge to Dr. Sibenga in Holland and he inseminated 31 cows, It is believed that about half of them are now in calf,
