Leader Explains

That the trade mission will not be concerned in any way with political questions was made clear to-day by Lord Barnby, the leader, ina letter to the "Morning Post."

Referring to an article in the paper quoting an interview in which he is reported by the London representative of a Japanese journal as having expressed certain opinion about the political relations of Great Britain with Japan and Manchoukuo, Lord Barnby says he feels that some misunderstanding must have arisen in connection with the matter.

"The mission: which I have the honour to lead to Japan and Manchoukuo." he declares, "is not eon cerned in any with; political questions, which are entirely outside its scope. Neither am I personally qualified to express an opinion political questions affecting the relations between Great Britain and other countries."

Continuing, Lord Barnby says: feel it right to make this quite clear in order to avoid any misinterpreta~ tion about the objects of the mission which is proceeding to the Far East. We are going there in an entirely unofficial capacity for business purposes, and also in the hope of making. friendly contact between the business communities of the respective countries."—Wireless and Reuter,
